Building upon the rock

Once upon a time, there are two sibling.  They was raised to know of Christ.  When they was fully grown, they went out into the real world.  The first sibling saw a beautiful shore by the ocean.  The beautiful golden sand enthralled the sibling and he brought a piece of the land from the owner.  He was given some warning about the consequences of building upon the land, but he went ahead and built a home upon the sand.  The other sibling on the other hand traveled the world and saw what seemed to be a cold and inhospitable place with a large rock  overlooking the area.  He remembered what he had been taught and brought the land.  He built a home upon the rock.

Years passed by and they both lived according to their choices.  In their middle age, a tropical cyclone came in on the shores.  The sibling ran into his house, believing himself to be safe from the onslaught of the storm.  The storm hammered away at the house.  The sand eroded away rapidly and the house collapsed as the sandy foundation disappeared under the assault.  The sibling perished in the flood.  The other sibling lived atop the rock when a large menacing storm appeared on the horizons.  The sibling calmly prepared by shuttering the windows and having a portable generator ready in case of power outage.  The storm descended upon his home and hammered his place of resort with rain and hail.  The house stood firm and never yielded.  The water under the rock rose but never reached the house for it is high above the waters.

The moral of the story is that we are taught about Jesus Christ early on in our life, or later in our life by those who represent Jesus Christ.  The one who built upon the sandy foundation represents those who are caught up by the vanity and pride of the world.  They set at naught the counsel of the Creator who created them, choosing to follow after their lusts.  The storms represents the temptations, the trials, in general anything that life throws us.  The sandy foundation holds nothing, just like the world.  The world we know is not eternal but always changing so it is an excessively unstable foundation to build upon.  The rock represents Jesus Christ, His Gospel.  It is firm and eternal, never changing.  It does not change with time.  Absolute Truth, as it really is, is unchanging.  Nothing changes the pure undiluted Truth.  It is the sure firm foundation that we should build on.  When the troubles of life arise, we will not be drowned in misery.  With Jesus Christ as our guide, we will not falter or fall wayside.  It's through the Gospel that we build on that we can attain joy in this life and hereafter.

In 3 Nephi 11:40, we are taught about what it means by the sandy foundation and the rock.
